Polar has unveiled a new smart scale to complement its line of activity trackers. The Balance works with any Polar fitness band—but if you don't have one, it also communicates through the Polar Flow app.

The functionality should feel familiar if you've ever used a smart scale. Users simply weigh themselves and plug in a target body weight. The system then sends that information to your Polar fitness band or the Polar Flow app (iOS/Android). Over time, Balance will learn your fitness habits and provide personal feedback to help you lose weight.

According to the company, Balance monitors your weight and activity habits on a 24-hour basis. So if you're weighing yourself each day and adhering to the system's diet and exercise advice, there's no need to engage in any additional calorie counting.

Smart scales are nothing new. Garmin, Fitbit, and Withings all offer similar products, which means the Balance is in good company.

However, Polar is betting that its Polar Flow app will provide a more streamlined user experience, setting it apart from the pack. It uses Bluetooth to connect with pretty much any Polar fitness product, including the Polar Loop, Loop 2, Loop Crystal, A360, M400 and V800.

If you're intrigued by the idea of an automated digital fitness coach, the Polar Balance can be bought for $99.95 or 99.90€. The subsequent progress you'll make toward your personal fitness goals, however, could be priceless.
