You probably know Chamberlain best for their line of garage door openers. But there's always room for innovation, even in such a niche category.

Already we've seen Honeywell—purveyors of various home and heating devices—throw its hat into the smart home ring. Now Chamberlain is doing the same, with a smartphone-enabled WiFi garage door opener, as well as a video door chime called Notifi.

While somewhat unexpected from Chamberlain, Notifi makes sense. Unlike other smart locks or front door interfaces (Kevo, Lockitron, Goji), Notifi combines the connectivity of a smartphone-enabled lock with the video monitoring capabilities of Dropcam. It is, quite simply, a doorbell, lock, security camera, and intercom—all in one.

Essentially, this allows users to not only see who's at their door via video feed to their phone, but also to communicate with them and unlock the door remotely.

"We're innovating new connected products that incorporate video, lights, notifications and better awareness for consumers," explained Cory Sorice, VP of Marketing for Connected Products at Chamberlain.

The MyQ Garage smartphone-controlled garage door opener will be available for purchase this spring. The Notifi was unveiled just this week at CES.
